WHAT IS A FOOT ZONE?
For thousands of years, healing reactions have been known to occur when certain points on the feet are triggered. This has been supported through modern-day research, which has also shown that specific points on the feet connect to specific organs, tissues, and systems in the body. The areas on the feet also reflect disturbances, imbalances, and energy blockages of the body by the way they look and feel. Foot zone therapy uses pressures, strokes, and other techniques to affect signals in the feet which then relay messages to the body part or system to correct imbalances.
IS A FOOT ZONE THE SAME THING AS REFLEXOLOGY?
In contrast to reflexology, foot zone therapy is a holistic approach focusing on the body as a whole rather than focusing only on an illness, body part, or system. A map of four zones of the feet is followed to ensure each signal and system is worked. During a session every organ and system is worked on to help balance, repair, and restore. A foot zone for the body is like getting a tune-up for a car. Most of the improvements are subtle to keep the body balanced, however there may be times when there are larger areas of blockage that need more attention. The technique is typically the same for every person, although each body responds uniquely.
WHAT TO EXPECT
During the foot zone, the practitioner is paying attention to how the feet look and feel. The practitioner may notice discoloration, puffiness, different textures, hollowness, etc. These give an indication of which body systems or organs may need attention. The foot zone practitioner is trained to use a variety of tools such as their hands, knuckles, fingertips, and different stones to affect signals on the feet. As a client, you may share additional information about areas of concern in your body that need attention. Most of the time it feels like a relaxing foot massage but there may be some discomfort and tenderness where there are areas of imbalance or blockage.
A foot zone session usually lasts between 40 minutes and one hour. After a zone, some clients may feel energized while others may feel more relaxed. It is recommended that the client drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Note: The practitioner may explain to the client what they observe and feel on the feet throughout the zone. However, the practitioner is not qualified to diagnose, prescribe, prognosticate, or treat any mental, emotional, or physical conditions, symptoms, or illnesses. A foot zone should not be considered a substitute for medical examinations, diagnosis, or treatments, but is a modality for holistic healing that is typically most beneficial in conjunction with other modalities and a healthy lifestyle.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU GET A FOOT ZONE?
Each person varies depending on the condition of their body. If you are healthy and well, you may get a foot zone once every 4-6 weeks. Other acute conditions may be advised to get a foot zone as often as multiple times a week.
